About American Marriage Ministries

American Marriage Ministries is a non-profit church formally established in Washington State on July 4th, 2009. We exist to provide all people the ability to celebrate marriage and other religious functions according to their beliefs. We believe that this is an innate human right, protected by the 1st Amendment.

The Church staff consists of three officers of varying religious backgrounds – Glen Yoshioka, Dylan Wall, and Sara Lachman. Our values come from the understanding that all people, whether religious or not, have deep personal values and should be treated with respect, acceptance, and understanding.

Marriage is a celebration that brings people together, and we want to extend that further, as a church comprised of a wide cross-section of people that have found common ground in the service of bringing people together. As of April 19th, 2014, we have ordained 162,317 ministers nationwide!

Official Purpose

To provide a platform for all to engage in the service, celebration, and dialogue of marriage in accordance with the articles of our faith, state and federal law.

Our Beliefs

As outlined in our Theological Doctrine, American Marriage Ministries (“AMM”) is built on the belief that all people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, or socioeconomic status, have the right to engage in the marriage contract, that all people have the right to administer the marriage contract, and that it is the right of every couple to choose who will officiate their marriage.

AMM and its ministers believe in the doctrine of marriage, that marriage is a sacred bond, a religious rite to be cherished and respected by the people and the state.

AMM is a non-denominational church. Of its three officers one is Presbyterian, one Jewish, the third Agnostic. This religious society, and all members thereof, stand for the principled intent of helping all people.

Our Ordinations

An AMM Ordination is free and it takes less than a minute to become a minister. There are no annual fees nor any obligation to buy unless certified documents are required by your local government. Our ordinations are recognized all across the country and in most state’s our ministers are not required to register with their local government.

Additionally, you can contact your local government office, lookup your state’s marriage laws, and read what our ministers are saying about officiating weddings as an AMM minister!

Performing Legal Marriage

Many of our ministers are performing marriage for the first time and we are here to make sure they understand the process.

To begin, the legal dimension to officiating a wedding simply involves completing a piece of paper, the marriage license. The marriage license is the legal document of marriage. It is filed for by the couple from their local government prior to the wedding.

The role of the minister is to conduct the wedding, have the couple present their marriage license, make sure that the information is correct, and complete the license. The couple then returns the completed license back to its office of issuance.
